My job is transferring me to Boston in the next few months. Thankfully, this gives me some time to get my affairs in order, especially when it comes to my car. Do I need to get a front license plate in Massachusetts?

Every car registered in Massachusetts is required by the state to have both a front and rear license plate. The idea behind having two plates is that it makes the job of law enforcement easier to identify cars involved in crimes or driving infractions.
Don’t worry too much about it, though. The DMV will send you both plates in the mail once you
register your vehicle
.Massachusetts gives you 30 days to get a Massachusetts driver’s license, register your car, and obtain a Massachusetts car insurance policy, so act fast. A driver’s license costs $50 and is good for five years.
To properly register your car, it costs $170, which includes:
- Registration fee: $60 (good for two years)
- Titling fee: $75
- Inspection fee: $35
