Do electric cars use the battery when not in use?

I drive my EV to work every day so I have to park my car for the day. The car obviously used a battery when it’s on and I’m driving it, but what about when it’s parked. Do electric cars use the battery when not in use?

Congrats on the job and great question! While it’s not a significant amount,
electric cars
do lose some charge while they are parked for long periods of time.
Experts agree that if your car is charged you can park it for long periods of time. While it may seem like a good idea to store it at 100% but this extreme charge will likely do more damage to your battery than good. The best charge range to store your vehicle is somewhere between 50% and 80%.
Some electric cars may have a power save or deep sleep mode that helps to conserve the battery when storing the vehicle. This mode helps to reduce unnecessary battery drainage by disengaging some of the functions and systems that won’t be in use while the vehicle is being stored.
Make sure you store your car in a place that is cool as lithium batteries dislike heat. If you have a garage or are able to find one, it’s best to store the car in the shade as opposed to direct sunlight. Not only can the excess heat affect the battery, but direct sunlight may also fade some of the interiors and leave your car looking more worn than you left it.
