Do electric cars produce carbon dioxide?

I was wondering if electric cars are completely emissions-free or if they produce carbon dioxide?

Good question! And it’s a little tricky to answer because the answer is “yes” and “no”. Yes, EVs (electric vehicles) do produce carbon dioxide since they require electricity from power sources that use fossil fuels that release carbon dioxide. However, they do not contribute to what’s called direct and well-to-wheel emissions.
Direct and well-to-wheel emissions are essentially the emissions that the car does (or in the case of EVs, doesn’t) produce when the automobile is being operated. So while the sourcing of its energy (electricity) puts off carbon dioxide, when an
electric car
is actually running, it is totally carbon dioxide free.
All in all, EVs are responsible for far less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than their gas counterparts.
Regardless of your fuel source, you’ll want to make sure your car has the best insurance that money can buy.
