Do electric cars need a grounded plug?

I know that certain appliances need a grounded plug like kettles and blenders. Since EVs take a lot of electricity, do electric cars need a grounded plug?

Great question! Yes, while

themselves don’t need a grounded plug, their chargers do and will not plug into an outlet without one.

There are different levels of

electric car chargers

with Level 1 being the slowest charging with no needed installation and Level 3 being the fastest charging but only available in commercial spaces.

Level 1 chargers can be plugged into a regular outlet without any external installation needed. Even these, at the lowest level, require a grounded plug. Grounding poles work by sending extra power into the ground and away from the device. In the case of an EV, this prevents overloading the battery and preventing electric shock to the driver.
