would be equally as efficient. Electric brake systems are smaller and lighter than their mechanical counterparts, so slowing down or stopping requires less power overall. Electric cars also come equipped with regenerative braking systems.
The motor in an electric vehicle acts like a generator, and when your foot is off the gas pedal, it uses the friction from your moving car to charge the battery and slow your car down at the same time.
