In regular cars, engine air filters are designed to keep harmful contaminants from entering the engine through the grill. The filthy air and debris can cause several issues in your engine if your filter becomes clogged.
Electric cars don’t have an engine. Instead, they’re entirely powered by a sealed electric battery. Therefore, they don’t run the same risks as the traditional gas-fueled vehicle. Some manufacturers have begun to remove the grill because it serves no function. With no air intake and a sealed battery, engine air filters have been rendered unnecessary.
Fun fact: Manufacturers are struggling with removing the grill from the design of their electric cars. People have become attached to the aesthetic of a grill on the front of their vehicle.
