It’s not odd at all. Like you, many people have attachments to the ‘new car smell,’
but there is no evidence that electric cars will smell any different. Aside from the absence of exhaust and fuel smells, it seems that the smell you notice in new cars comes from seals, fabric, materials like leather, and other finishes. So it’s fair to assume that electric vehicles will smell the same.
Ford has created its very own answer to this question. One of their surveys found that many drivers felt that they would miss the blend of gasoline and other fragrances that make a car feel classic.
So in response, Ford designed a new scent called Mach-Eau that they plan to feature in their electric car fleet.
Ford describes Mach-Eau as “a high-end fragrance that fuses smoky accords, aspects of rubber, and even an ‘animal’ element to give a nod to the Mustang heritage.”
