Do car chargers need GFCI protection?
I’m going to install a home charging station for my new EV this weekend. If I’m hardwiring the charging station, does it need a GFCI circuit breaker? I think I remember reading something about new EVs needing GFCI protection.

That’s a great question! If you’re hardwiring your car’s charger, you generally don’t need GFCI protection. However, you are legally required to have a GFCI breaker for 240V or NEMA 14-50 outlets that are used for charging.
