Do boomers drive electric cars?

I have a relative who claims that electric cars are strictly driven by millennials. Aren’t there any boomers who drive electric cars?

Good question! According to recent data, only 1% of the boomer population is likely to be behind the wheel of an electric car.
Not surprisingly, Gen Z are the leading electric car drivers at 18%, followed by Millennials at 11%. And while electric cars have been rising in popularity in the US, the older generations just don’t share the enthusiasm for electric vehicles.
It could be a nostalgic tie to
older vehicle models
, or familiarity with the old gas-powered engine. There’s also a tendency for
older drivers to prefer manual transmission
, which doesn’t exist in electric cars. And boomers aren’t the only ones who want to hang onto manual transmissions, as some
automakers have vowed to keep manual models
on the market.
But for the most part, it seems that most of the older drivers surveyed agree there just aren’t enough charging stations in their area yet, or that electric cars are otherwise impractical for their lifestyle and driving habits. So while there are definitely some boomer electric-car drivers out there on the road, don’t expect the number to rise drastically.
Whether your car runs on gasoline or electric power you always need insurance.
