Do auto insurance companies reissue checks in North Carolina?
"My dad was in an accident and received a settlement for his medical bills. The accident happened three years ago and I just found the check for him now.
I called the insurance company to see if they'd reissue the check and they said the statute of limitations was three years, so they wouldn't be able to. WIll my dad be responsible for the medical bills now?"

“The statute of limitations in North Carolina for car accident claims is three years. However, since the claim was paid out and closed, the statute of limitations shouldn’t apply.
The
car insurance
company might have misunderstood and assumed you were trying to file another claim. You should call them again to explain. They should be able to issue another check as the original was never cashed.If the insurance company refuses to reissue the check, you may need to file a complaint with the NC Department of Insurance. You can also check for unclaimed property through the state’s website to see if the claim money was sent to them.
The hospital and medical bills are still your father’s responsibility, even with the expected payment from the insurance company. You’ll want to check with the health-care providers as the bills were most likely sent to collections for lack of payment.
