Yes—you are legally allowed to turn right on red in Texas provided that no sign specifically prohibits the right turn at a stop light or intersection.
Before making a right-hand turn, you still need to follow a few simple rules to avoid an accident or a potential citation:
- Come to a complete stop when you reach the intersection. Make sure that you stop at the white line first and then creep forward toward the intersection rather than stopping right at the intersection.
- Yield to all pedestrians and cyclists going through the intersection.
- Double-check for motorists going through the intersection, as they may be traveling at a high rate of speed.
