Knowing a state’s traffic laws is the best way to avoid any trouble while you are there. The good news is that you are allowed to make a right on red in South Carolina, as long as you follow all the rules.
Every state in the US permits drivers to make a right at most intersections while at a red light. One notable exception to this rule is in New York City, where they are rarely allowed.
In South Carolina, you can make a right at a red turn unless there is a sign indicating otherwise. If a sign says “No Right on Red” or something similar, it’s unsafe and illegal for you to turn right until the light turns green.
Assuming there is no sign, do the following to make a right on red:
Come to a complete stop at the red light
Look both ways and ensure there is no oncoming traffic or pedestrians crossing
If all is clear, make a right and continue on your way
