Can you store gasoline in a hot shed?
I wanted to start keeping some extra gasoline on hand, just if my car gets low and I need to fill it enough to get to a gas station, but I don’t know the best way to store it. Can I keep it in a shed even though it might get pretty hot?

Storing gasoline in less than ideal temperatures—like in a hot shed—can be done if proper precautions are taken.
Gasoline is flammable, so it needs a spark to actually ignite. Heat alone won’t cause gasoline to combust, but it will cause it to expand, which means your container might explode under the right conditions.
If you want to store gasoline in a shed, do the following:
- Make sure it’s as far away from your house as possible
- Keep gas away from any possible ignition source
- Store gasoline away from any power generators
- Only store around one gallon at a time
- Leave enough empty space in the storage container to allow gas to expand in higher temperatures
