Can you practice driving in a church parking lot?

I’ve just started practicing my driving and I want to gain more experience behind the wheel. About a quarter-mile from me is a church with a huge parking lot, which seems ideal for practice. Can I drive around in the church parking lot?

You can certainly practice driving in a church parking lot, but only if you ask the church beforehand or leave if they ask you. Moreover, look for signs that warn of trespassing or loitering, as the church may call the police if you ignore them.
If your local church won’t allow you to practice driving, you still have a few other alternatives:
  • Another empty parking lot, such as a retail store or mall
  • Rural highways
  • Low-traffic suburban streets
  • Roads with lower speed limits
  • If you need practice driving at higher speeds, use a low-traffic stretch of the interstate
With a bit of practice and some studying, hopefully, you can obtain your driver’s license. And while that’s an exciting chapter in your life, don’t forget about
