Can you park by a stop sign?

I’m going to drive down from Chicago and celebrate Mardi Gras in St. Louis this year with some friends. However, they told me that parking is at a premium. They said the cops probably won’t care if I park by a stop sign, but I don’t want to risk a ticket. How close can I park to a stop sign?

What an awesome trip! St. Louis has the second-largest Mardi Gras in the U.S., so you’re sure to have a great time. In the City of St. Louis, you must park at least 30 feet from a stop sign. If you don’t, you may face a fine of $20.
That said, you can’t park in the Soulard neighborhood (where Mardi Gras takes place) without a parking permit. If your friends live in the nearby areas of Benton Park or Lasalle Park, try to stay 30 feet away from stop signs. However, it’s unlikely that the police will enforce parking laws in these areas due to the increased presence in Soulard neighborhood.
Even if you’re going on a short road trip, you want to make sure you’re protected against any worst-case scenarios. Add roadside assistance or
towing and labor coverage
to your car insurance policy just to be safe.
