Can you negotiate a car lease buyout?

I’m enjoying my leased car so much that I think I’m going to buy it. But I don’t want to spend too much more than the total lease amount if I can help it. Should I try to negotiate the price for buying out my lease?

It’s something special when you find a car that you enjoy driving! Whether you can negotiate a car lease buyout or not will depend on a few factors, including the terms of your lease and if you leased the vehicle through a dealer, a bank, or another third-party lender.
Here are some tips for negotiating a car lease buyout:
  • If you are buying your car at the end of your lease, the estimated amount and terms of the lease-end buyout will be outlined in your agreement. Depending on the lender, you can still try to negotiate for a lower price, especially if you do your research on how much the car is currently worth.
  • If you’re looking to end your lease early with a buyout, your ability to negotiate will depend entirely on the lender. Again, if you can show that you can buy your car for less than the lease agreement’s purchase price, a dealer may sell your leased vehicle for a lower amount so they don’t lose money from an unfinished lease.
