So, your parents are Sunday drivers? There’s nothing wrong with taking a leisurely drive, but remember, other drivers may be in a hurry, and all drivers are required to keep up with the flow of traffic. Because of this, you can get a ticket for
Driving too slowly in the fast lane: Slower traffic is required by law to stay in the right-hand lane, or as close to the right side of the road as possible if moving slower than the normal flow of traffic and heading in the same direction. Of course, you can slow down if you’re getting off the highway.
Impeding traffic: If you’re driving too slowly in the left lane, right lane, or a single road, you (or your slow-driving parents) can be ticketed—blocking the normal and reasonable flow of traffic is a no-no, unless you’re driving slowly in compliance with the law, or dealing with extreme weather.
Failing to use a roadside turnout: If you’re Sunday-driving on a two-lane highway and your turtle-like pace has five or more vehicles behind you, you can be cited for failing to use roadside turnouts if you’re moving too slowly. If for whatever reason you can’t speed up, use the closest roadside turnout, or an area with enough space to pull over safely, and let the cars behind you pass.
