Can you get a ticket for driving barefoot?

I was driving my brother to work the other morning and he noticed that I drive barefoot. He said I could get ticketed for doing that, but I don’t believe him. Is it illegal to drive barefoot?

Being comfortable while you drive is important—it helps you focus on the road without unneeded distractions.
While there aren’t any states that prohibit barefoot driving, you may want to consider putting your shoes back on for a few reasons:
  • Your shoes will have better traction on the gas and brake pedal, preventing possible slips at the wrong moment.
  • If you’re in an accident, you’ll want to be able to exit your vehicle safely without having to search for your shoes.
  • Unless you’re only going for a
    scenic drive
, you’ll need your shoes to enter most businesses.
Of course, shoes aren’t the only thing you’ll need when hitting the road—don’t forget about
car insurance
. Just like your shoes, the right coverage will protect you and your vehicle in the event of an accident. For help finding the coverage you want at a price you can afford, get the
