Can you get a DUI for driving high in Massachusetts?

I always avoid driving after drinking, but I can’t say the same for marijuana. What happens if you get caught while you’re driving under the influence of something other than alcohol? Do you still get a DUI, or does Massachusetts have different legal parameters?

Yes, you can get charged with a DUI for driving high or driving drunk in
Massachusetts
or any other state. While the two are slightly different due to distinctive testing methods, the two charges are legally similar.
Typically, the arresting officer will need some kind of evidence that you’re under the influence, like a lit joint, an open container, or a strong smell coming from your vehicle. If there is no evidence available, it can be hard to make the charge stick in court later on.
Basically, buzzed driving is the same as drunk driving, so always have a sober friend drive you or take a ridesharing service.
