I just bought a motorhome, and I’m ready to embark on my first road trip. However, I also want to take my manual-shift Subaru with me. Is it possible to flat tow a manual Subaru behind my motorhome?

Although Subaru recommends a flatbed trailer, you can flat tow a manual transmission Subaru without damaging the vehicle. This includes all models, model years, and trims. However, it comes with a major caveat: you can only flat tow a manual Subaru if you travel at 20 mph or under and the distance is less than 31 miles.

To this effect, you typically would only flat tow a manual Subaru in an emergency. To maintain the condition of your vehicle, a flatbed trailer is highly advisable. These typically cost between $1,000 and $3,000.
