I’m thinking about buying a Ford Explorer, but before I do, I want to make sure that I can tow it behind my truck without a flatbed. Is it possible to flat tow a 2019 Ford Explorer?

You might be able to flat tow your 2019 Ford Explorer, but it depends on the drivetrain and what you have under the hood. If you have a two-wheel-drive/rear-wheel-drive version of the Explorer, you’ve cleared the first hurdle. However, your Explorer also needs to have either a 3.5-liter or 3.7-liter engine under the hood.
If you have any engine other than the 3.5-liter or 3.7-liter or a four-wheel-drive version, you cannot flat tow the 2019 Explorer. Instead, you’ll need to purchase a flatbed trailer to tow the vehicle without damaging any of the components or underpinnings.
