Can you cross your hands in a driving test?
I’m prepping for my driving test and I feel pretty confident about it for the most part. The only question I have is about how to hold the wheel when making a turn. Can I use hand-over-hand steering when turning during a driving test?

While crossing your hands when making a turn won’t cause you to fail a driving test, it may cost you a few points. Crossing your hands can make your grip on the steering wheel less firm, which can lead to problems if you have to make an adjustment while turning the wheel.
Instead of crossing your hands when making a turn, apply the pull-push technique. To use this technique, follow these steps:
- Place your hands at 10 and 2 or 3 and 9, depending on what your state’s driving guide recommends.
- When making a right turn, pull down with your right hand and push up with your left hand.
- Apply the same principle but in the opposite order when making a left-hand turn.
