Can you claim lost jewelry on your home insurance?
My family lost our home due to a severe fire. Among our losses was my great-grandma’s wedding ring. We had it appraised recently, so we can at least verify the value. Now, we are trying to put together our insurance claim. How they treat us is going to determine whether we stick with them. Can you claim lost jewelry on your home insurance?

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your home and such a precious family possession. Typically, if the reason for the loss of jewelry was due to a named peril, your insurance will cover the loss up to a certain amount.
Most standard
homeowners insurance policies
include fire as a covered peril, so the loss of your jewelry is likely covered. (If the reason for the loss wasn’t a named peril, you’d likely be out of luck.)How much your insurance will cover depends on what your
policy
says about your specific coverage limit for jewelry. The fact that you had your jewelry appraised will be immensely helpful with filing your claim.If you have remaining jewelry and the value exceeds a couple of thousand dollars (or rather, the limit of your policy’s jewelry protection), it may be a good idea to get additional insurance to protect them against future losses.
