Can temporary car tags travel across different states?

I just got a new car and haven’t received the new tags yet, but I’m still well within the permitted time frame to have the temporary ones. My friends and I are taking a road trip to Oregon soon. Can my temporary car tags travel across a few different states?

Congratulations on your new car, and your road trip sounds so fun!
The good news about temporary tags is that you can drive anywhere with them, even across different states. As long as your
car is currently registered
and your temporary tags are still valid, you’re good to go!
While you’re still within the time frame of having your temporary tags, make sure you file an extension with your state if you’ll be out of state when they’re set to expire. Driving with an expired temporary tag is against the law. You could end up with an expensive ticket or your car impounded.
Beyond having registration for your new car, you’ll also want to make sure you have the best
car insurance
to keep your car safe, especially on a road trip. If you’d like help finding the best car insurance coverage at a great rate, use the
