Can my license be suspended for reckless driving?

I’m being charged with reckless driving in California, but I still need to use my car to commute to work every day. Should I be worried about my license being suspended for reckless driving?

After being convicted of reckless driving in
California
, you could have your license suspended. Remember, reckless driving is considered a criminal offense in California, so the punishments will be more severe than your average violation.
Here are the possible penalties for reckless driving in California:
  • Fines up to $1,000
  • Up to 90 days in jail
  • Impounded vehicle for up to 30 days
  • Up to 30 days of your license being suspended
While those are the legal repercussions, you could also face further penalties from the DMV and your insurance provider. In terms of the DMV, you’ll be given points on your license. While these points shouldn’t affect you too much if this is your first infraction, earning the following will get your license suspended:
  • Four points in one year
  • Six points in two years
  • Eight points in three years
Unfortunately, your insurance provider won’t usually offer as much leeway. After a reckless driving conviction, you’ll likely see a huge increase in your insurance premium. To make sure you’re still getting the lowest available rate for your car insurance try
