Can my house support an electric car charger?

I’m thinking of purchasing an EV in the next couple of years. I know that I want to be able to charge from home, but I’m not sure if my house’s electrical system can handle an electric car charger.

Your home will be able to have an
electric car charger
installed if you want to use a Level 1 (110-volt) or Level 2 (240-volt) charger. A Level 1 charger is a cable that runs from your vehicle into a regular household plugin. However, if you’re looking to lessen the amount of time it takes your vehicle to charge its battery, you might want to think about installing a Level 2 charger. These require 240-volt outlets, the kind that your dishwasher or dryer uses.
You’re probably wondering how you can have one installed. Truthfully, unless you’re an electrician or have plenty of experience in electrical wiring, you’re better off having a professional do the job. The best-case scenario is that you have an electrical panel that’s near where you plan to park and charge your EV. If you don’t, expect to pay somewhere between $50-$75 per foot for an electrician to reroute the necessary power to your new outlet.
If you aren’t interested in reducing your charging time, most people are content with a Level 1 charger, which, in the long run, is actually better for your battery. While Level 2 and Level 3
fast charging
is convenient, they can reduce your battery’s life expectancy with regular use.
While it may not be worthwhile to level up your charger, it is worth it to level up your car insurance game with help from Jerry.
