“To deem your vehicle a total loss, the cost of repairs will often need to exceed your vehicle’s value. You’ll also need to have
collision car insurance
on your policy. Without collision insurance, you’ll be responsible for any costs out of pocket, even if your vehicle is totaled.
To get an idea of the cost of damage, you’ll have to take your truck to a repair shop for an estimate. You’ll also want to look at the
value
of your vehicle. If the damage is close to exceeding your vehicle’s value, it’s likely that your insurance will mark it a total loss. If the repairs are less, your insurance should cover the repairs.
If you haven’t already, you’ll want to reach out to your insurance company and let them know what’s happened. They’ll be able to guide you through the next steps.”
