Can my car insurance company close my claim?
My car got hit in a parking lot and the police had me fill out a report. I reported my claim to my insurance company and got a repair estimate for $1,400. My deductible is $500, and the insurance company wants me to take the $900 check and close the claim. I want to wait for the police report. What should I do?

car insurance
company can reopen the claim should the police report come back with more information. It is normal for a company to close a claim once an amount has been paid out. You can still take the check they are issuing you to repair your vehicle. Should the repair shop find any other damage, the insurance company would work with them to pay the extra fees.
The same would apply with a police report. If the police are able to find the driver responsible for the damage, your car insurance company would reopen the claim to seek reimbursement from the driver.
By closing the claim, the company isn’t saying no further information can apply, but that the issue has been resolved based on the current facts.
