Can mice chew through car electrical wires?

I just moved into a new place, but I’m concerned that there’s a bit of a mice infestation in the garage. I drive an electric car that I also charge in the garage space, is it possible for mice or other rodents to chew through a car’s electrical wires?

If you’re not being proactive, a
rodent infestation
can cause damage to the electrical wiring in and around your car.
Rodents may find themselves camped out inside the
hood
of your car because they’re looking for a warm, secluded place to hide. With an electric car, you especially have to be careful to avoid potential damage from mice or other rodents to ensure that they don’t damage or tamper with any of the wirings in your vehicle. Some actions you can take include:
  • Setting traps around the area where your car is parked. You can even place traps on top of your car’s wheels, as this is often what mice climb up to get access to the interior of your car.
  • Spraying an electrical-safe deterrent, such as pine sol, around the wiring of the car.
  • If your car is parked inside a garage, seal up any cracks where mice could potentially get in.
