Can I put my new car on my parents' car insurance policy if I don't live with them?
I'm a grad student going to school out of state. Before I leave, I'm going to buy a car and garage it at my parents' house so I can build credit and have a car for when I return home. Can I put the car on my parents' car insurance policy?

“If you aren’t living with them and the car title is in your name, chances are you’ll have to get your own
car insurance
.But if you want to save money and you trust your parents, there is a way around this. When you buy the car, title it in both your name and a parent’s name. With a parent’s name on the title, you can insure it under their policy.
That’s probably the best way to reduce costs and have your car waiting for you.”
