Yes—you can absolutely extend your Ford factory warranty by purchasing one of the Ford Protect Extended Service Plans (ESPs) through your dealership.
There are four available plans, all of which offer at least partial coverage of major engine components, as well as gaskets, seals, and internal parts. Here are your options:
PremiumCARE: This is the most comprehensive option and offers full coverage for the engine, transmission, brakes, air conditioning, heating, electrical, high-tech, audio, safety components, and more. It’s also the only plan to cover the powertrain control module (PCM) and more than 1,000 other components. This is the closest you’ll get to your original factory-sponsored warranty.
ExtraCARE: This plan covers 113 components, including partial coverage for the engine, transmission, front- and rear-wheel drive, front suspension, braking systems, air conditioning and heating, high-tech, and electrical components. It does not include the rear suspension, emissions, audio, safety, or PCM.
BaseCARE: This Ford extended warranty plan is meant to cover the powertrain and other essentials, such as steering, brakes, front suspension, air conditioning and heating, and electrical. While some engine components are included, BaseCARE does not cover the radiator, radiator fan, fuel tank and lines, flywheel ring gear, or gas fuel injectors and fuel lines.
PowertrainCARE: This plan extends your basic powertrain warranty and includes partial coverage for the engine, transmission, rear-wheel drive, and front-wheel drive—a total of 29 components.
Obviously, the more coverage you get, the more expensive your extended warranty will be. However, the final price will depend on several factors, including the year and model of your vehicle.
If the extended warranties offered by Ford don’t meet your needs, you can also look into securing an extended warranty through a third-party company.
