Can I buy a car for someone with cash?

I’m really into this girl and want to buy her a new car. Her car is really old and falling apart, and I’ve got cash to burn. Can I buy a car for someone with cash?

Wow, Daddy Warbucks over here! What a generous gesture. You can buy a car for someone with cash—you’ll just have to add her name to the title after purchase.
Here’s how to add another name to a car title:
  • Sign the back of the title after you purchase the car in your name.
  • Write your name and the other person’s name on the “Buyer” section.
  • Have the title notarized.
  • Fill out a Transfer of Title form.
  • Submit the form online or at your local DMV.
Be sure to check your state’s processes for title/loan transfers, as they can vary.
Also, keep in mind that buying a car for someone may include costs for the recipient. If you don’t plan on supplementing maintenance, insurance, and gas costs, make sure your recipient is prepared for these additional expenses!
