Can driving cause sciatica pain?

Will driving a lot cause my sciatica pain to flare up again? I get horrible cramps sometimes after I drive long distances and I worry that I need to drive less frequently.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation! It’s true that driving can cause sciatica pain—especially
driving long distances
. So it’s entirely possible that your driving habits are the culprit.
Fortunately, you can take some preventative measures to experience less discomfort after driving, including:
  1. Making regular stops to stretch (at least 15 minutes for every two hours of driving)
  2. Sitting with your thighs parallel to the ground
  3. Adding a support cushion to your car seat
  4. Drinking a lot of water to prevent some of the muscle-related symptoms
  5. Keeping your shoulders back and your spine straight when seated
