Can car dealerships run your credit multiple times?

Do car dealerships really run your credit multiple times? I want to get a promo rate through my local car dealership, but friends have told me it can ruin your credit due to the dealership running your credit numerous times.

“It’s highly unlikely that a car dealership would run your
credit
multiple times.
However, if they work with other lenders, these lenders may all pull your credit report.
The good news is that if you have multiple hard inquiries within a 14-day period, it should count as just one hard inquiry.
Read the fine print and ask the dealer about running your credit report if you have any concerns. They won’t hide any of this information.
Car dealerships will need more than just your credit to help you apply for financing. Be sure to
come prepared when you’re buying a car
