Are U-turns legal in North Carolina?

I’m headed to Wilmington to go golfing with some friends for about a week. We’re going to drive but I’ve never been to North Carolina before. Is it legal to make a U-turn in the state?

Wilmington
is a great place to soak up some sun and hit the links! If you’ve never been to the Tarheel State before, driving laws are similar to almost every other state. Like 49 other states, U-turns are legal in
North Carolina
, so you have little to worry about.
When you make a U-turn, just make sure to follow these simple safety tips:
  • Make sure that you yield to all oncoming traffic
  • Don’t make a U-turn whenever a sign prohibits it
  • Only make a U-turn if you’re in the left-most lane of a multi-lane road
Keep in mind that if you fail to yield during a U-turn or do an illegal U-turn, you face three points on your license and a fine between $100 and $1,000.
Since you’re headed out on a road trip, adding
towing and labor coverage
can give you some added peace of mind. Do some research on insurers that offer it and then use the
