I was able to test drive a Tesla with a self-driving mode the other day and it was awesome! I know that while it’s autonomous, you still have to be behind the wheel and awake while driving. This made me wonder about laws regarding self-driving cars in my home state of Florida. In Florida, are self-driving cars legal?

. In fact, the Florida State Legislature has even passed laws promoting the testing and adoption of such cars.The three bills passed by the Florida government include:
- Legislative intent to promote the testing, development, adoption, and operation of self-driving cars. This also includes that the state would not discourage or deter the adoption of this technology, provided the tester is licensed by the state.
- Permitted the operation of self-driving cars on public roads, so long as the operator has a license.
- Started a pilot program to study and test self-driving truck technology.
