Is it illegal to lower a car?

I’ve seen a lot of cars that have been lowered on social media and I think my car would look great if I lowered it. I know people make modifications to their vehicles all the time but I’ve never done it before. Are lowered cars illegal?

Modifying your vehicle
is a great way to add a touch of personal style. Unfortunately, lowering your vehicle is illegal.
As long as your vehicle clearance is not less than 100mm, your car is street legal. But each state has different restrictions regarding car modifications, so you’ll want to find out what your state allows before you make any modifications.
You should also consult your insurance provider before making any modifications to your vehicle and ensure coverage.
