Are Jeep SUVs safe?
Jeep makes such fun and rugged SUVs, but are they actually safe?

Jeep SUVs are reasonably safe, and the brand’s safety ratings have improved significantly in recent years. However, Jeep’s vehicles aren’t the safest SUVs on the road.
In the United States, we generally rely on two organizations when it comes to evaluating a vehicle’s safety: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
NHTSA assigns safety ratings using a five-star system. Each vehicle gets an overall score, as well as individual ratings for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover crash tests. In 2021, the Jeep Grand Cherokee earned the highest NHTSA safety rating—an overall score of five out of five stars. But it only received four stars for front and rollover crash tests.
IIHS gives each vehicle a rating of Good (the best possible rating), Acceptable, Marginal, or Poor (the worst possible rating). The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earned Good for some crash test categories but Marginal to Poor for others.
Keep in mind that not all Jeeps are created equal. In general, the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee earn much higher safety ratings than the Wrangler, for example, which suffers from a 27.9% chance of rollover.
