Are electric cars toxic?

I’ve heard mixed things about how environmentally friendly electric cars really are and I was wondering, are electric cars toxic?

Yes, there’s a lot of swirling information out there on the carbon footprint of EVs (electric vehicles). At the end of the day,
electric cars
are less toxic than their gas counterparts. Electric cars use lithium for their batteries which if not handled properly can cause leaked chemicals into the atmosphere.
And while the
electricity
that EVs use is often coal-powered (especially in North America), they still contribute to less toxicity being released than their gas counterparts. Just as gas-powered cars have become more fuel-efficient over the years, EVs will become more energy-efficient as well. This will allow your car to take less of a charge to go further.
Like most things with technology, each passing year it gets more and more honed in and, well, better.
