Are electric cars required to make noise?
Electric cars are supposedly really quiet, but I've heard normal car noises coming from some of them. Was that feature added because electric vehicles are required to make noise?

are dangerously quiet, so they are required to make noise. The almost silent hum of an electric vehicle helps to combat issues like sound pollution—a problem in highly populated areas. Noise pollution is currently one of the biggest threats to wildlife. Although most of us have become immune to the sound of traffic, especially when living in cities, the loud noises from traffic can negatively impact neighboring animal life.

This promoted the ‘quiet car’ rule, which requires electric vehicles to make sound so that pedestrians and cyclists can hear the car’s speed. The creation of artificial noise has been a bit exciting to automakers. Most car manufacturers are now employing sound engineers to help them create a signature buzz.
