I have a friend who drives a 2018 Volvo XC60, and they were telling me that they didn’t have a choice about having all-wheel drive. Do all XC60s come with AWD?

Even though your friend has an all-wheel drive (AWD) XC60, you do have a choice when it comes to which drivetrain you get. The Volvo XC60 is available in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive was eliminated from the XC60 for the 2018 model year, but it returned in 2019 and has been the standard drivetrain on entry-level trims ever since.
For 2023, all Volvo XC60s outfitted with the base turbocharged 247-horsepower 2.0-liter B5 engine—such as the XC60 Core— are paired with front-wheel drive to start, but all-wheel drive is an option. Higher trims, like the Volvo XC60 Ultimate, are furnished with the more powerful 295-horsepower B6 engine and come with standard all-wheel drive. Plug-in hybrid versions are also fitted with standard all-wheel drive.
Here’s a look at what drive options are available for each XC60 trim:
Core: Front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive
Plus: Front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive
Ultimate: All-wheel drive
Polestar Engineered: All-wheel drive
