What will happen if I skip my monthly car insurance payment? And can I make up for it later?

I'm going through some financial troubles and I can't afford to pay for my car insurance this month. What will happen if I skip my monthly payment? And can I make up for the missed payment by paying double the usual amount the next month?

Every insurance company differs when it comes to their payment plans. In most cases, if you miss a payment, you’ll receive a cancellation notice and be given a short window of time to make the payment before the policy cancels.
Don’t wait to make a double payment the next month! Your policy could be canceled before then, depending on the type of payment plan you opted for when the policy was issued.
It’s essential to avoid a policy cancellation so that you don’t have a lapse in coverage, as a coverage lapse may cause the premium to increase when the policy is reinstated.
If you think you won’t be able to make your next payment, reach out to your insurance company or your Jerry agent to discuss any options that may be available to you. Remember, at Jerry we’re here to help!
