What is a non-rated driver?

A friend of mine was talking about putting a non-rated driver on his auto insurance plan. What is that? Does it change how much you pay?

A non-rated driver can do wonders for your premium! Why, you ask? Because they do not factor into the charge for your premium. In contrast, having a rated driver on your policy means that their driving record is factored in when the
insurance
company determines the rate for your policy.
For example, let’s say your adult child lives with you, but they have their own car and have an insurance policy in their name. They would be considered a non-rated driver. Even though they have access to your car because they live with you, they are not on your policy because they have their own. You don’t have to worry about paying a higher premium if they have a poor driving history.
