Energy efficiency and conservation are becoming more and more popular with the general public to save money and to preserve Mother Earth. Solar panels can be a great solution, but they can also be costly! You will be happy to know that since solar panels are usually permanently affixed to the home, they are covered by your insurance under “Coverage A,” the dwelling portion of your policy. Some things like wear and tear and malfunction will not be covered, so it is essential to know if you have a manufacturer’s warranty and what it does and does not cover.
If you are adding solar panels to your home, make sure to update your policy with your agent so that the value of your dwelling coverage can be adjusted to make sure that you are properly protected.
