How can I start a 2002 Ford Taurus without the key?

I lost the key to my Taurus, but I pretty much never lock my door since I can’t imagine anyone wanting to steal this thing. So I can get in, but I can’t figure out how to get the car to start. Is there a way I can do it without the key?

You likely won’t be able to start a 2002 Ford Taurus without the key. Starting any car requires bypassing the ignition lock, which should only be done by your car key.
You’ll have to get a duplicate key if you want to start your car. Since you don’t have the original, you’ll need to contact an auto locksmith and have them make you a duplicate key.
They will need the following information about your car:
  • The make, model, and year
  • Car registration
  • Title
  • Vehicle identification number (VIN)
If you have
roadside assistance
, it may cover some or all of the cost of a duplicate key. If you don’t have roadside assistance, consider getting it through the
Jerry
app.
Jerry offers customers a modern roadside assistance membership. Along with traditional benefits, you get Uber-like tracking for the status of your service and the ability to contact your service provider directly for as low as $4.16 a month.
