Of all the
remarkable car designs
we've seen over the years, convertibles undoubtedly are at the top of the list. There is simply no better feeling than cruising down the streets in the hot summer with the top down and wind blowing in your face.
Now, while most of these
luxury rides
fall a little short in cargo space and passenger room, the very best of these more than compensate with their sleek designs and lush appeal. What's more, rather than just the summer, modern designs allow for convenient, all-year-round use, with newer
convertibles for multi-passengers
coming out each day.
Looking to purchase one of these babies? Here's a list of the top convertibles of 2021.

Why the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of the top-selling convertibles

For years now, the Mazda MX-5 has been a favorite among convertible lovers everywhere. As per
Consumer Reports
, the Miata is the most reliable among other car models, even overshadowing long-time
top-performing cars
like Lexus and Toyota with a rating and reliability score of 87 out of 100.
It's therefore no surprise that their fourth-generation model, the 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata, is the world's best-selling convertible as it stands. Like its predecessors, the MX-5 is extremely agile and offers satisfactory feedback from the steering. The only difference is its now over 100 kg lighter, smaller, and more efficient.
The vehicle is powered by a 181 horsepower four-cylinder engine, which is a bit low compared to the vast majority of high-powered sports cars. However, according to
U.S. News
, the car is still pretty nimble, with a road test score of 80, moving from 0-60 in 6.7 seconds.
The Miata comes in a six-speed manual transmission (the standard), but there is also a six-speed automatic transmission version. At a price of around $26,830, the vehicle offers one of the best values for the money. You basically enjoy the same level of thrill as the Porsche Boxster at a relatively affordable price.

2021 Porsche 718 Boxster: One of the best convertibles of all time?

The Porsche 718 Boxster has long held a reputation as one of the most outstanding convertibles of modern time. The culmination of its features, appearance, and performance makes this the car most entry-level sports cars are measured up against.
Sure, at $60,000, the vehicle lies on the higher end of the price spectrum, but it has the facilities to back it up. To begin with, the Boxter's performance is exceptional to say the least. It features a 300 horsepower turbo-four, although you can have the option to select among three other upgraded engines.
On average, it goes from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds, and its mid-engine design affords it a lower center of gravity, which keeps it nimble as you navigate the corners. Consumer Reports gives it an overall road test score of 95, which far supersedes any other car on our list.
The vehicle is incredibly crafted and has the sleek signature appeal you'd expect from a Porsche. It comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated sport seats, although you can go for full-racing carbon-fiber bucket seats. Its trunk offers 4.4 cubic feet, with an additional 5.2 cubic feet under its hood thanks to its mid-engine layout.

2021 BMW Z4: Classy yet roomy

To say the 20201 BMW Z4 is a beautiful ride would be an understatement. At a glance, the vehicle exudes elegance and class and would look good sitting on anyone's driveway. However, according to
Consumer Reports
, the car's driving experience, noted to be “choppy and stiff,” is not exactly the best.
Still, this doesn't speak for the car's performance.
Its four-cylinder engine delivers as soon as you hit the gas pedal. The Z4 accelerates quickly while giving out steady power regardless of the rpm range. The vehicle sources 255 horsepower from its turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, allowing it to Jump from 0-6 mph in a little over six seconds. It had a road test score of about 86, which is still pretty decent.
Unlike its predecessor, which featured a retractable hardtop, the Z4 now has a softtop in place, giving it a classic yet modern profile. You get more room than would be expected of a two-seat roadster. Its cargo capacity is also relatively large standing at 9.7 cubic feet. The vehicle goes for around $49,700.
Well, that just about sums it up. As far as convertibles go, you simply can't go wrong with any of the above. But as you've seen, these vehicles don't come cheap. You are going to need reliable insurance to protect your precious asset and keep you safe from any liabilities during accidents.
