History of the 1982 Cadillac Seville
The Cadillac Seville was released in 1975 to compete with other popular luxury imports. The 1982 model was a part of the second-generation Seville, which was redesigned with a FWD platform instead of RWD. Its wheelbase was shortened, producing the Seville's distinguishable "slantback" design at the rear. It also gained a new independent rear suspension.
It was the first American car with a standard
diesel engine
, capable of up to 120 horsepower. Drivers who desired more power could opt for a 135-horsepower V-8 equipped with digital fuel-injection technology.However, after 1983, the standard diesel was taken away in favor of a lighter V-8. Another diesel was also offered, but it was reportedly plagued with reliability problems. Despite its revisions and luxury features, the second-gen Cadillac Seville couldn't outsell its underperforming predecessor.
How did this collaboration happen?
This actually isn't the first joint project for Gucci and Cadillac. In 1978, Gucci worked closely with International Automotive Design Incorporated to produce a luxury appearance package for the Cadillac Seville. The interior was revamped with caramel-colored leather and plenty of gold Gucci emblem accents. It even came with a Gucci luggage set.
Hot Wheels has made a 1982 Seville toy in the past, but it definitely wasn't as swanky as this one, which is based on the previous Gucci Cadillac.
The new toy comes in Cotillion White, with the same special roof and hood ornament as the real deal. It also has gold piping on the seats, an all-metal diecast body, and Real Riders tires. It comes in an acrylic glass display case, complete with a genuine Gucci box and slipcover. It might be pricey, but it’s certainly not lacking in detail.

The Hot Wheels 1982 Gucci Cadillac Seville was released on October 18, but it has since sold out online.
