background
Bugatti has been producing
iconic supercars
for over a century. The French carmaker continues to create amazing, high-performance vehicles for its niche market.
As the company celebrates its 110th birthday, it is creating a reinterpretation of its legendary 1991 Epochal EB110 and calling it the Centodieci. The EB110 was certified to be the most unique
luxury
supercar of its time and happened to be the fastest too. Let's explore the history behind the inspiration and the features of the upcoming Centodieci.
The Bugatti Centodieci will help celebrate the brand’s 110th birthday.

The Bugatti Centodieci strives to beat the EB110

According to
Robb Report
, “Centodieci” is Italian for 110. The model strives to reach the success of the EB110. The EB110 was the only model produced by the company when the iconic Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli was in charge before Volkswagen Group later purchased the brand in 1998.
Motor Authority
describes the EB110 as one of the extreme racing machines of its day. It featured a quad-turbocharged V-12 engine and carbon-fiber bodywork. Unlike most fast cars today, it had an all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
Its V-12 engine gave the supercar 553 horsepower for the base trim and 40 more horsepower for the Super Sport trim. It also had impressive acceleration, reaching 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds. While the new Bugatti will have better performance, the fame and value of the earlier model are hard to beat.

The Bugatti Centodieci engine and design

The Bugatti Centodieci has similar design features to the EB110, such as its horseshoe-shaped grille, angular shape, and unique air intakes behind the side windows. It runs on a W-16 engine with an 8-liter capacity.
Bugatti
explains that the engine produces a whopping 1,600 horsepower and will be displayed in a glass cover for all to see. The vehicle also has impressive acceleration, moving from zero to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds.
The Centodieci is based on the Chiron, another mid-engine sports car. However, it is 20 kilograms (around 44 pounds) lighter than the Chiron. The Centodieci has sharp grooves running across the body, which gives it an aggressive appearance. The vehicle is fitted with eight taillights and matte-black exhaust pipes on either side of its oversized diffuser.
Bugatti made extensive use of 3D printing and VR technology in coming up with the prototype. This enabled the brand to develop a better body design and make noticeable inclusions of the EB110 features.

When is the Centodieci expected to go on sale?

The Bugatti Centodieci is a limited production model and only 10 units are expected to be available. The carmaker had unveiled prototypes of the model in February and is said to be testing them for various conditions around the U.S. One of the important aspects that the carmaker will be looking at is the cooling system and its ability to handle hot weather.
We expect the company to complete the testing at the end of the year and production to commence in early 2022. The first Centodieci could be released in early to mid-2022. The results of the testing could lead to some tweaks to the design, but the changes will be minimal.
Like any other limited-production model, the Bugatti Centodieci will not come cheap. The lucky 10 buyers will have to part with $9.6 million each for the racing supercar. Rumor has it that the 10 vehicles have already been sold out.
