Where can I find my Geo’s paint code?

First, locate your service parts identification sticker where the paint code will be listed for all Geo cars. Depending on your model, you can find the sticker in the glove box, spare tire cover, or sun visor.

To read the paint code, the sticker will include a combination of letters and numbers in the following configuration: BB/CC U = Base Coat/Clear Coat and Upper (or Body Color). Write down or take a photo of the numbers/letters that follow BB/CC U.

What if there’s no paint code on the car’s label or the label’s not there?

Sometimes a service parts identification sticker inadvertently falls off or becomes illegible. No worries, you can use your Geo’s VIN—or Vehicle Identification Number—to look up your vehicle’s paint code.

The VIN is an alpha-numeric code consisting of 17 numbers and letters. To find it on your Geo, check the door jambs on both the driver’s side and passenger side doors. You can also look on the steering column, firewall, or windshield on the driver’s side. If it’s not there, it will be on your title, registration, and/or insurance documents.

With your VIN, contact a Chevrolet dealership, and they should be able to look up your paint code for you.

Where can I get paint for my Geo?

Today, it’s pretty easy to find good touch-up paint. In addition to your local auto supply store, you can shop online for paint to match your car.

Many people purchase paint kits because they come with all the tools you’ll need: the primer, clear coat, paint, and applicators. Some kits even come with polishing compounds and rags.

Paint touch-up tips

Here are some tips for using touch-up paint on your car or SUV. Set aside enough time to practice with the applicator and allow for drying time between coats.

Location, Location, Location. While you don’t want to apply paint when it's too cold, most experts recommend not painting in direct sunlight on a hot, humid day either. Choose a cooler place with little to no humidity. And, of course, don’t paint outside when it's raining!

Practice, Practice, Practice. Taking the time to get the hang of using the applicator—whether it be a pen, paintbrush, spray can, or another tool—is important. You can use a piece of cardboard, but if you have access to a clean piece of metal, that would be even better.

Clean the area. Be sure to clean off the area you will be painting. Paint will not adhere well to a dirty surface.

Deep scratches require a primer. If you can see exposed metal or plastic, this means the scratch is deep enough to require a primer coat.

Apply the primer, paint, and clear coat in thin layers. When applying the primer, paint, and clear coat, you will want to apply several thin layers of each. Take your time.

Allow enough drying time between layers. Do not rush drying time. Many experts recommend at least 30 minutes of drying time between coats to allow the paint to set. Consult the directions on your paint bottle.

Do not wax or buff for at least three days. Some experts say you need to wait only 48 hours, but you should err on the side of caution. Let the paint and clear coat cure.
