A Ford 6.7-liter engine requires Motorcraft SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel Motor Oil. This is Ford’s recommendation for this type of engine, and it is best to stick with this oil so long as you can find it.

The 10 in 10W-30 refers to the oil’s viscosity, or thickness, when the engine is cold. Note that this oil will be thicker at colder temperatures than a 5W-30 oil, for example.

The 30 means the oil remains relatively thin at very hot temperatures. The W stands for winter.

This type of oil works well in cold temperatures, as it stays relatively thin when the mercury dips. Thinner oil will cause less wear and tear on your engine.

Ford recommends changing the oil for your 6.7L engine every 10,000 miles. If you drive frequently, replacing it every 6 months works well.

It’s a good idea to get into the habit of checking your oil regularly to ensure everything is running smoothly. The following are signs that you should change your oil:

To change your oil, you’ll need a few things: a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench to remove the existing filter. You’ll also need a replacement filter and 15 quarts of the good stuff—by that we mean Ford’s recommended engine oil!

To start, run your engine for a few minutes to get it up to operating temperature. In normal weather, this shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Once your engine is warm, turn it off, pop the hood, and do the following:

Remove oil fill cap

Slide underneath the engine, remove the oil drain bolt and washer, and drain the old oil into the drain pan

Remove the old oil filter while letting the oil drain

Install the new filter

With a new washer, replace the oil drain bolt, tightening it to 29 lb-ft

With new oil, refill the engine and replace the fill cap

Once you’ve changed the oil, use your dipstick to ensure you’ve added enough oil. Now, run the engine for a few minutes to make sure there are no oil leaks. Your

oil pressure light

should be off.

Then, it’s time to clean up. Pour oil into a sealed container and bring it to your nearest recycling center. Don’t put old oil into the garbage or pour it on the ground.
